Ladder Falls Still Prevalent
We were recently surprised to read that more than 300 people in the U.S. die each year from falls off of ladders. Even more unbelievable is more than 90,000 are treated in emergency rooms for accidents involving ladders.
While these numbers sound high, it's iobering to realize that, if you fall from a height of just 11 feet, you have a 50 percent chance of dying from the injuries you receive in the fall.
Employers have a responsibility to provide a safe working environment for their employees, so if you work in construction, maintenance, manufacturing or another environment where ladders are used, be sure to follow all safety precautions.
Most ladder accidents occur when the victim is also trying to carry something while they ascend or descend a ladder. Keep your hands free, and keep yourself safe.
