Accident Avoidance: Driving Safely With Children
Their innocence and angelic faces don't make children less likely to sustain an injury in a
car accident. So, if you decide to take Junior with you, here are some safety tips for driving with children:

- Children 6 and under absolutely must be secured in either a car seat or booster seat that is appropriate and approved for their specific height and weight.
- Children 7 years old and younger, who are 57" or shorter, must sit in the rear seat if one is available.
- Children over 57" and who weigh at least 40 pounds may use a lap belt if a shoulder/lap belt is not available.
Common Sense
- Stay focused. Save arguments and texting for when you're not behind the wheel of a vehicle.
- Keep children comfortable. Use sunshades to keep children at ease and quiet.
- Prioritize. Your job is to get from point A to point B without getting in an accident. The spilled Skittles can wait until you can pull over. Everyone stays upright and in their seat belts. No exceptions.
Unfortunately, no matter how well controlled you have your own vehicle, you can't do anything about other drivers. Inevitably, accidents will still happen.
